Currently, I teach composition, critical thinking, literature, and creative writing at the College of Alameda in California.
Dearest Wendy,
I just visited your blog and read about your beautiful experience at the Columbia Narrative Medicine workshop. I loved what you said about how stories are “co-creations”–the teller and the listener. When the teller has a compassionate witness, the cycle is closed. I’ve experienced this many times and each time I am moved and surprised by the power of it.
I also went to your memoir page and read the excerpts from Sea Creature that you’ve posted. I remembered so much, Wendy, from your earlier book–and so much was new. Your writing has become so clear, so compressed and direct and strong. My eyes filled with tears reading this powerful and lovely new work. I am so glad to witness how you are moving forward with your writing and your healing, Wendy! And I am sending all good thoughts to the memoir for its publication and reception by the wider world. I miss you so much! But reading this made me feel as if you are here with me. And I am there with you.
Thanks, Leanna!!
Your comment means so much to me! Yes, I feel you here with me. I’m so glad I got to share a little bit of my experience at the Columbia Workshop with you. You’ve been so much a part of my ongoing story!! And I’m glad you enjoyed the memoir. (I’m going to post more soon.) Your affirming words about my writing give me a real boost. As I move my book out into the world, I feel reassured knowing that you are cheering me on!
I’m new to Facebook so am not so sure how to navigate around yet but look forward to finding out more about you as days go by. I miss you, too and send big hugs and lots of love.
